Review and options for the future
This review was commissioned in 2017 to support the stakeholders in the Celtic Neighbours project in deciding if and how the project might operate in the years ahead. While the review has to take account of the work and achievements of Celtic Neighbours since its inception in 2005, the main priority and focus of the review is on looking forward and identifying options for how Celtic Neighbours might operate in future.
This review has two purposes: (i) to provide an overview and to take stock of the work and achievements of Celtic Neighbours to date and (ii) to consider what might happen next by providing options and recommendations for discussion among all stakeholders.
Cultural festival of the sheep : Can y bugail 2017 +
We envisage a pan-European ‘Festival of the Sheep’, bringing together song, poetry and music, crafts and the fine arts, husbandry and breeding, wool, meat and milk production, and reflecting the lives and concerns of all those who spend their lives working with the sheep. The festival would take place every two years, hosted in a different European country each time.
Our dream is to draw together farmers and poets, craft-workers and cooks, musicians and manufacturers, not only to share and celebrate this aspect of our common European culture, but to compare experience, share skills and build collaborations.
An initial meeting to take this idea forward is planned to take place in Dokkum, Frŷslan, in Spring 2017.
